Suzie Bates of New Zealand did the tumbling, juggling act to perfection to dismiss Australian Ashleigh Gardner for 10 off 13 balls, which the umpire officiating on-field was not convinced and sent it to the third umpire, and then it was confirmed that Bates had latched onto it cleanly and Gardner was out.

Australia women won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored 153/7 in their stipulated 20 overs with Alyssa Healy being the top-scorer, 53 off 38 balls as Leigh Kasperek with three scalps was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers. Yet the Kiwis could not get over the line and win the crucial encounter as they fell 33 runs short of the target.
