Pulwama massacre: DSport suspends Pakistan Super League telecast in India

Mumbai: Sports channel DSport has suspended live telecast of the broadcast of Pakistan Super League (PSL) in India in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack in which more than 40 CRPF men were martyred.

“We’ve suspended the broadcast,” a top official of DSport told Mumbai Mirror.

This year, PSL is in its fourth edition and was launched last Thursday. It features six teams and the Twenty20 tournament is Pakistan's version of the Indian Premier League (IPL). DSport stopped the PSL broadcast in India from Saturday.

On February 14, an explosives-laden SUV, driven by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist, rammed into a CRPF bus on Srinagar-Jammu highway. Over 40 CRPF personnel were martyred in the suicide attack.

There has been massive anger among Indians and there have been calls to isolate Pakistan. Keeping in mind the sentiments of the people, DSport has blacked out PSL coverage.

Before the start of PSL, former Pakistan cricketer and commentator Ramiz Raja has tweeted that the tournament will have "bigger and better coverage" this year. He had mentioned that PSL will be broadcast in India by DSport.

"This years PSL is billed as a show stopper - bigger better coverage with all the broadcasting toys at play.. Enjoy the five star coverage in Pakistan, Willow TV US,Willow TV Canada, D Sports India,Hum Masala UK and http://cricketgateway.com (sic)," he had tweeted on February 14.

On Sunday, IMG Reliance had cancelled its association with PSL. IMG Reliance provided broadcast production services for Pakistan’s marquee cricket event and has stopped offering these services from immediate effect thus leaving the tournament in lurch.

PSL, which started on February 14, ends on March 17.
