Mourinho’s ideology have seemed to pose obstacles in different ways be it in the dressing room, or in terms of collective opinions of the team. We are going to discuss about his conflicts with different stars which took shape in the bygone years

Jose Mourinho, the manager of Premier League club Manchester United is known to be one successful man in his field who spreads his aura wherever he goes by earning trophies. He is also famous for having conflicts with his fellow players, along with the regime of earning trophies, at his presence. The latest one to come up in the news being Mourinho’s tiff with Paul Pogba.

Mourinho’s ideology have seemed to pose obstacles in different ways be it in the dressing room, or in terms of collective opinions of the team. We are going to discuss about his conflicts with different stars which took shape in the bygone years.

1. Iker Casillas

Stating the obvious, Mourinho detested the old stager of Madrid for quite a few reasons. They had contradicting tactics on field, Mourinho’s hostility towards Iker and his journalist girlfriend’s relationship and also the telephonic conversation with Barcelona captain Xavi after the concluding El Classico brawl, made the two bitter against each other.

“Mourinho saw him as a grass, a mole, a traitor and an egoist,” Diego Torres mentioned in his biography, The Special One, referring to Iker as “him”.

2. David Luiz

Luiz became the fringe in his own team once Mourinho got back to Chelsea, losing his significance to John Terry and Garry Cahill, in spite of helping Chelsea to bring the trophy to home of Champion’s League 2012. He was sold to PSG in 2014, while the rough Mourinho failed to display any feeling of regret for the same. His mockery, “he would not be missed” was a great deal of insensitivity.

Luiz took out his frustration when PSG defeated Chelsea the following season, which gave him enough reason to make some payback. Even his mother took the insult of his son on a personal level, hereby posting a picture of Mourinho on social media captioning with uncaring words.

Luiz made his comeback on 2016 with Mourinho’s departure for 34 million euros. The team welcomed him with arms wide open and he is happy playing under Maurizio Sarri.

3. Sergio Ramos

The duo did not seem to be on good terms as they were seen to squabble way more often, duing Mourinho’s Madrid days. Their animosity had started way back in 2012 when the dismissed Ramos pulled on the shirt of Mesut Ozil, who was substituted off by Mourinho, following a bag full of controversy. It was an act of solidarity on the part of Ramos, but it was mistaken as an act of resistance.

However so, Ramos remained to be the linchpin of Defence of the club throughout Mourinho’s reign in Madrid. The scornful attitude of Ramos towards Mourinho was evident and persistent, when he pretended to have forgotten about the latter in an interview, in December 2014.

4. Samuel Eto’o

Single handedly Mourinho cannot be blamed when it comes to Eto’o, as he has got a past of falling out with scores of people from the football family. Mourinho happened to have managed Eto’o in Inter Milan and also Chelsea, yet his discourse had been quite in a ridiculing tone. This flustered Eto’o who eneded up caling Mourinho a “fool” and a “puppet”. Though surprisingly, the pair happened to have erased their differences after the he scored against Tottenham.

5. Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku

They have been paired up for their differences with Mourinho at Chelsea. Mourinho sent off the two without prior concern or discussion after they failed to abide by his summons, at Chelsea. The jury had been doubtful of Mourinho’s decision to ship them off ever since the pair was being able to raise 46 million euros for Chelsea, while De Bruyne was being purchased by for 55 million euros by Manchester City in the year of 2015.

“I was expecting more from my attacking players. There was not enough creativity, movement or dynamism,” Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho speaks of Romelu Lukaku, at Old Trafford, after the tie with the Wolves.

6. Ricardo Carvalho

He is believed to have been one of the trusted servants of Mourinho, the advent of Carvalho’s career being in the hands of Mourinho at Porto, prior to following him to Chelsea and then Madrid.

But then Carvalho revealed the toxicity of their relationship as well, in 2010. “In our first year at Chelsea, we had a collision in the dressing room,” he said, “I answered back and then he answered me again. But later we had to deal with it. “He told me: 'You spoke to me and I spoke to you - that's it. If you have to play, you are going to play'. From that moment it was solved.” Carvalho moved to Spanish third-tier Salamanca this summer.

7. Pepe

Mourinho’s amplitude of scoffs provoked not only the Madrid captain Iker Casillas, but even Pepe reacted to it referring to his taunts as uncalled for. Mourinho replied to it as, “It is easy to analyse the Pepe thing. His problem has a name, and it is Raphael Varane.”

This comment of Mourinho indicated that Pepe was not in the right frame of mind due to losing his team position to the 20 year old. Pepe bridled at Mourinho’s tone when he said that the Madrid players were self consumed, as the manager had left the club. Besiktas reminded him, Mourinho had little or no significance in their team any further.

8. Ricardo Quaresma

Quaresma ended up “winning” the Bidone d’Oro award for securing the postion of the worst Serie A footballer, after signing for Inter Milan from Porto for 18.6 million euros. His role was apprehended to be paramount in the new formed team of Mourinho, but ultimately was highly disappointed.

“My biggest regret was joining Inter,” Quaresma said, “I felt on the margins of the squad and woke up crying when I had to attend training sessions.” Mourinho had given up on his ability.

9. Juan Mata

Juan Mata and Jose Mourinho never came to an understanding during their Chelsea days. The former’s existence became a snub to the team and Mourinho reckoned him as inapt for the role he wanted to use him for, in the team. In January 2014, Mata became a part of Manchester United, then managed by David Moyes, which felt like an escape to him, in spite of being the player of the season of the club, at Chelsea.

However so, their relationship continued and Mourinho ended up gratifying Mata’s endeavor at Manchester United, until the 2016 Community Shield. After this Mourinho made a replacement for the midfielder and commented, “I needed to take off the smallest player because we were expecting a lot of long balls.”

10. Luke Shaw

Mourinho is an exasperating person and with Luke Shaw the level of friendliness reaching some different level all together. Shaw had suffered from a terrific leg injury in 2015. Ever since strived to secure his position in the team. But bringing down his morale, Mourinho commented, “Luke Shaw? It was difficult for him to be on the bench because I cannot compare him with Ashley Young, with Darmian, with Blind,” after discarding him on April 2017. He said, “The way he trains, the way he commits, the focus, the ambition, I cannot compare. He’s a long way behind."

Meanwhile, Shaw’s optimism and resolution gave way once he was being able to overcome his persecutor’s intention and made a comeback to the English team.

11. Anthony Martial

Mourinho is currently known to have been vexed upon Anthony Martial due to his lack of playing time, who is restless enough to move away from the club. Tottenham is highly intrigued to welcome the player, but the Red Devils are unlikely to sold him off to their arch rivals.

To make things go worse, Martial was in absentia during the pre-season training, without prior notice, for the birth of his child. He is to pay a certain amount of fine for his imprudent actions and the resentful Mourinho commented, “He has the baby and after the baby is born - beautiful baby, full of health, thank god. He should be here and he is not here.”

12. Paul Pogba

The face off between Pogba and Mourinho is getting intensified with passing days, and it is just September which has already witnessed major amount of brawls between the two. None is too sure about the concluding outcome of the entire scenario.

Mourinho has questioned Pogba’s potential, and said that his form has degraded after winning the World Cup 2018. Pogba refused to speak his mind due to the fear of being charged with a hefty fine. His agent, Mino Raiola hinted towards his possible transfer to Barcelona or Juventus.

Pogba was denuded of his position as a captain of his club on Tuesday. Mourinho clarified, “The only truth is that I made the decision for him not to be second captain any more but there is no fallout, no problem.”
