Chelsea edged past Inter Milan 5-4 on penalties in their first encounter in the ongoing International Champions Cup.

Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero was the star of the day after he saved a shot from Milan Skriniar in the shootout.

Chelsea and Inter Milan drew at 1-1 in their opening game of the tournament.

Spain international Pedro struck after just eight minutes in Nice and also turned 31 on the same day. Inter Milan keeper Samir Handanovic saved a shot from Alvaro Morata and Pedro capitalised on the rebound to net the ball.

Inter came back in the second half through Roberto Gagliardini. In the 49th minute half-time substitute Tiemoue Bakayoko gave the ball away and Gagliardini did not miss sending the ball past Caballero.

Chelsea also had the chance of winning after new signee Jorginho almost sent the ball past Handanovic but the goal was saved by the Inter keeper. Tammy Abraham too couldn't net the ball with his effort.

On the Inter side, Twenty-year-old Argentine Lautaro Martinez almost scored for the Italians in stoppage time but his shot was deflected by Caballero.

Chelsea will play rivals Arsenal in Dublin on Wednesday.
