Dhoni is just one run short of becoming the fifth Indian and 13th overall to join the elite club. The 37-year old has accumulated a total of 10,173 runs in the 50-over format, however, the record also contains 174 runs which he smashed against Africa XI, while representing Asia XI in a three-match rubber in 2007

Thiruvananthapuram: Virat Kohli became the first Indian to score three consecutive ODI hundreds in the ongoing series against West Indies. The Indian captain scored an unbeaten 157 in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam, and in the process, became the fastest batsman to reach 10,000-ODI runs, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar.

And now, former captain MS Dhoni is close to the 10K peak.

Dhoni batted predominantly at number 5 or 6 in his ODI career and this is clearly evident from the fact that he has far fewer centuries than most of the others in the 10K club. He will be the only lower middle-order batsman to score 10,000-ODI runs, whenever to gets there.

Dhoni has being axed from both the T20I series against the Windies at home and in Australia due to his erratic form. However, the former Indian skipper could well enter the 10,000-run club in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday in the lat ODI of the series against the Windies which will make him the only active member in the club along with Kohli.
