Hyderabad: About eight years back, India witnessed Ravichandran Ashwin's Test debut against the West Indies. It was a memorable one for the off-spinner from Chennai.

Having signed off the three-match series against the Windies with 22 wickets, he also had won the Man-of-the-series award, establishing himself as the team's premier wicket-taker in the longest format.

Ashwin has, since then, maintained consistency and obliterated several records. He has dominated in home conditions and has forged a great partnership with left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja.

Now, with the India-West Indies second Test under way in Hyderabad on Friday, Ashwin has a chance to achieve another milestone.

Currently, Ashwin has claimed 57 wickets, from the 10 Test matches played against the West Indies. He is at sixth position among successful Indian bowlers against the Caribbean side.

If he takes six wickets in Hyderabad, he can enter the top-five, which doesn't seem quite unachievable in his case as the opposition batsmen are struggling as seen in the first Test rout in Rajkot.

Kapil Dev, with 89 wickets in 25 Tests against West Indies, is heading the list. Following Dev, is Anil Kumble, with 74 scalps to his name, from 17 Tests.

The next three are from India's famous spin quartet - Srinivas Venkataraghavan (68 wickets in 23 Tests), Bhagwat Chandrasekhar (65 wickets in 15 Tests) and Bishen Singh Bedi (62 wickets in 18 Tests).

The 32-year-old Ashwin can go past Bedi if he manages to take six wickets in the ongoing second Test. Ashwin has so far taken 333 wickets from 63 Tests.
