The left-handed batsman had captained the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gambhir’s cricketing career has had its ups and downs. His journey as a first class cricketer began in the 1999-2000 season, but only a few years later was he able to hog the limelight.

India won six ODIs from the late 2010 to late 2011 under Gambhir’s captaincy. Gambhir also captained KKR to IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. He was conferred the Arjuna award in 2008.

Gambhir played crucial innings in both the 2007 World T20 and 2011 World Cup finals helping India secure the respective trophies. He has also made a name in being a fierce nationalist and compassionate humanitarian, and have championed the cause of the soldiers.
