This is the first time since 2006 that we have an all-European line-up for the FIFA World Cup semi-finals

FIFA World Cup 2018 is inching towards D-Day on Sunday, 15 July, but before that there are the semi-finals to savour. This is the first time since 2006 that we have an all-European line-up for the World Cup semifinals. And one man who is celebrating the development is UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.

Only five times in the history of World Cup have the semis been an all-European affair.

Belgium and France play in St Petersburg on Tuesday, while Croatia face off England in Moscow on Wednesday.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said, "Even though some of our traditional contenders such as Germany, Spain and Portugal were eliminated, there are other teams which have surpassed expectations and can now win the title."

"These results validate all the work that is being done across the continent to develop football, and they also showcase the strength and quality that exists across the whole UEFA region," Ceferin added.
