Jakarta/Palembang: India won four bronze medals in wushu at the Asian Games on Wednesday. It took India's medals tally to 15, with eight bronze, three silver and four gold medals.
Four Indians — Naorem Roshibina Devi, Narender Grewal, Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh and Santosh Kumar — all lost their semi-finals in the sanda event, but still secured bronze medals.
While Roshibina lost to Cai Yingying of China in women's sanda 60kg semi-final, Santosh went down to Truong Giang Bui of Vietnam in men's sanda 56kg semi-final, Surya lost his sanda 60kg semi-final to Erfan Ahangarian, and Grewal was defeated by Foroud Zafari of Iran in men's sanda 65kg semi-finals. However, all were assured of bronze medals when they had moved into the semi-finals.
For those who are not aware, wushu is a combat sport comprising two parts — taoulu (forms) and sanda or sanshou (sparring), with the former being a display of the acrobatic techniques put to practice in the latter.
This was India's best haul in wushu at the Asian Games. The nation had won two bronze medals in the last edition in Incheon in 2014.
