Jakarta: India went down to hosts Indonesia in the first match of the men's badminton quarter-finals of Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta on Monday.

World No 8 Kidambi Srikanth put up a tough fight but went down 21-23, 22-20, 10-21 to lower-ranked Anthony Ginting of Indonesia. It was a gritty display by Srikanth in the first two games, but could not maintain the tempo in the deciding game, going down tamely.

With this win Indonesia took a 1-0 lead over India.

It will now be upto Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty to put India on level footing as the men's doubles pair take on World No 1 Kevin Sanjaya and Marcus Gideon.

Earlier on Monday, India crashed out of the women's badminton team event as Saina Nehwal lost to Nozomi Okuhara, even though PV Sindhu put it past World No 1 Akane Yamaguchi.
