Asian Games: After Bajrang Punia's gold in wrestling, Deepak Kumar brings to nation silver in men’s 10 m air rifle

The 30-year-old Deepak Kumar scored 247.7, while China’s Haoran Yang bagged the gold with a record-breaking score of 249.1

Palembang: Deepak Kumar secured India’s third medal at the Asian Games 2018 as he finished second and won the silver medal in men’s 10m air rifle category in Indonesia on Monday.

The 30-year-old shooter scored 247.7, while China’s Haoran Yang bagged the gold with a record-breaking score of 249.1. Chinese Taipei finished third after Deepak beat him with a near-perfect score of 10.9. Ravi Kumar came fourth with a score of 205.2.

Deepak Kumar had earlier won bronze at the 2018 ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, in a 10 m air rifle mixed team with Mehuli Ghosh. In the 2017 Commonwealth Championship in Brisbane, Kumar clinched bronze in the individual category.

On the first day of the 2018 Asian Games, Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar won the first medal for India by winning bronze in the 10 m air rifle mixed team event. Chandela and Kumar got 429.9 points in the final, while China settled for silver with 492.5 points, and Chinese Taipei bagged the gold with 494.1 points.
