Arjun Tendulkar has been dropped from India A and also India B team that will play a four-nation tournament from September 12
New Delhi: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun has not been named for the upcoming U-19 Asia Cup to be held in Bangladesh. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad with Pavan Shah leading the team. Pavan replaced Aryan Juyal, who led the team on the tour of Sri Lanka recently.
Arjun has also been dropped from the India B team that will play a four-nation tournament from September 12. He is being dropped because he will have crossed the age limit for the next U-19 World Cup in 2020, according to a report in Times Now.
Nepal and Afghanistan will also feature in the four-nation tournament. Vedant Murkar will lead the India B team. Arjun made his U-19 debut recently in a two-match youth 'Test' series against Sri Lanka.
However, Arjun couldn't make much of an impact with the bat, scoring zero runs in the first Test. He, however, put up a good bowling spell and also picked up a wicket.
When he did make his debut, Arjun's selection was termed as nepotism with several people saying that he probably had it easy for being Sachin Tendulkar's son. There was a controversy back in 2016 over Arjun's selection over Pranav Dhanawade, the teenager who scored 1,000 runs in a local match, in the U-16 West Zone team.
Arjun was recently seen bowling to Virat Kohli in the nets in England. He was also at Marylebone Cricket Club in Lord's to hone his skills.
The teams for the upcoming series are as follows
India U19 squad for Asia Cup: Pavan Shah (Captain), Anuj Rawat (wicket-keeper), Prab Simran Singh (wicket-keeper), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yash Rathod, Sameer Choudhary, Ayush Badoni, Nehal Wadhera, Siddharth Desai, Harsh Tyagi, Ajay Dev Goud, Yatin Mangwani, Mohit Jangra, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajesh Mohanty.
