Mumbai: The rule followed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which permitted the wives and girlfriends of Indian cricketers to spend only two weeks of foreign tours with the players, has now been reportedly changed according to the one which is universally followed.

As per a report in Mumbai Mirror on Saturday, BCCI is likely to follow Cricket Australia’s (CA) model on allowing WAGs on overseas tours. CA has “family period” rules on tours.

“Normally, CA works with the Australian Cricketers Association (the players’ union) and finalises a certain period for the family members. This is called the family period where families come and visit for a set period of time,” the newspaper said.

India captain Virat Kohli had made a request to the BCCI to grant permission to WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends) to accompany them for the full duration of a tour. However, this was rejected by the board.

A meeting took place between members of the Indian team and Committee of Administrators (CoA) on Wednesday in Hyderabad and a decision was taken on WAGs on tour, according to reports.
