Ashgabat: Bengaluru FC crashed out of AFC Cup after losing 0-2 to Altyn Asyr FK of Turkmenistan in the second leg of their inter-zone semi-final on Wednesday. Bengaluru FC who had reached the AFC Cup final in 2016 and the inter-zonal final in 2017, were defeated by Altyn Asyr FK 5-2 on aggregate.
Although Bengaluru FC held the Turkmen team in the first half, Altymyrat Annadurdyyev and Vahyt Orazsakhedov scored a goal each to help Altyn win.
For Bengaluru, Miku and Sunil Chhetri created chances to score, but the team fell short of converting the attempts into goals, as Altyn Asyr's goalkeeper Mamed stood like a wall before the Bengaluru forwards.
Bengaluru FC had a 14-match unbeaten streak in their home ground of Kanteerava stadium which was broken by Altyn Asyr on August 22. They beat Bengaluru FC 3-2 in the first leg of the semi-final.
The 'Blues', as Bengaluru FC is fondly called, will now prepare for the opener of the 2018-19 Indian Super League (ISL), against Chennaiyin FC. The match will take place at Kanteerava stadium on September 30.
