UAE extradites Pulwama terror attack suspect Nisar Ahmed Tantary

Nisar had been on the run since December 2017, after three heavily armed men hurled grenades at the soldiers of 185th battalion camp at Lethpora and killed 5 soldiers.

New Delhi: Nisar Ahmed Tantary, a resident of Tral, Pulwama belonging to terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) was arrested by the NIA. He had fled to UAE on 1st February 2019 and was nabbed as soon as he landed in Delhi. Tantary was produced before the NIA court for police remand today.

Accused of being a key conspirator in the 2017 Pulwama attack which killed more than 40 CRPF jawans, Nisar Ahmed has been deported by the UAE an official of the National Investigation Agency said.

The NIA had previously arrested another JeM operative in February this year for providing logistics support to the Pulwama terror attack.

Tantray is the younger brother of Noor Mohammad Tantray, slain Jaish commander. Noor was a deadly terror planner and had been killed a few days before the attack on Lethpora camp, Pulwama. Noor Mohammad was also reported to be the mastermind behind recruiting youngsters into the terror group.

Mohammad was famously called ‘merchant of death’ by the Delhi court.

According to sources, 24-year-old Mudasir Ahmad Khan, the electrician who was responsible for arranging the vehicle and explosives used in the suicide bombing in Pulwama which led to the deaths of more than 40 CRPF jawans, was also recruited by Noor Mohammad Tantray.
