Congress president Rahul Gandhi was at an election rally in Jaisalmer district’s Pokhran Assembly constituency ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections

Jaisalmer: Amid reports that promises of waiving farmers’ loans could help the Congress in Chhattisgarh, its president Rahul Gandhi, on Monday, said that he would also waive farmers’ loans in Rajasthan, that too in 10 days if the party comes to power in the state.

“If you are going to make a Congress government, the party, in 10 days, will waive farmers’ loans in the state,” said Gandhi, while speaking at an election rally in Jaisalmer district’s Pokhran Assembly constituency.

Gandhi also said that he promised the same during the Punjab and Karnataka elections and the Congress governments have kept their promise by waiving farmers’ loans in those states.

“You may call and ask any farmer in Punjab and Karnataka if their loans have been waived or not. I do not make false promises. Whatever I, or Sachin Pilot or Ashok Gehlot say from this stage, we do it,” he added.

He said that a Congress chief minister in Rajasthan would work 18 hours in a day and get youths jobs.

“Modi waived 3.5 lakh crore of top 15 industrialists but we will give loans of lakhs and crores to youths. We will give bank loans to young people to set up small businesses, factories and will ask them to give jobs to others.

The Congress president also reiterated that he only speaks the truth and will not make promises that cannot be fulfilled.

“The bond between you and me should be of transparency. Many things can be done by truthfulness. Farmers’ loans can be waived off and schemes like MGRENGA can be introduced with truthfulness,” Gandhi added.

He also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Rafale deal and other issues.

Targeting Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, Gandhi said that she lied about the infrastructure of a school of Bharatpur. In an advertisement, he claimed, Raje said the school had fans, furniture, drinking water, playground etc, but when journalists went there they had found that it had nothing.

Terming Congress workers as ‘Sher’ and ‘Babbar Sher’, Gandhi said that they have to fight in ‘booths’ but they do it with gentleness, unlike an RSS or BJP worker.

“You are a soldier of the Congress and not a RSS or BJP worker. Fight with manners. Do not use any bad word for anyone, be it the Prime Minister or chief minister. It is their work to abuse, not ours. We will speak good of them,” he said.

Earlier in the day, before starting his election rallies, Gandhi visited Ajmer dargah and Pushkar to offer prayers.

Rajasthan will go for polls on December 7.
