BS Yeddyurappa, the state BJP president has batted in favour of editor Vishweshwar Bhat of Vishwavani newspaper, saying the JDS-Congress government in the state was muzzling freedom of expression.

Bengaluru: Days after an FIR was filed against the editor Vishweshwar Bhat of Vishwavani newspaper, none other than BS Yeddyurappa, the state BJP president, came out strongly in support of him.

He said, “We oppose the FIR against Vishweshwar Bhat. The JDS is trying to curtail freedom of expression. We are in full support of Vishwavani.”

The FIR relates to a news item in which it is said Nikhil, grandson of HD Deve Gowda and son of CM Kumaraswamy created a ruckus in a state of drunken stupor in front of his grandfather, alleging that he had been scapegoated in the Mandya Lok Sabha polls.

A complaint was lodged by the JDS in this regard.

On the issue of forming the government in the state, he said it is better to dissolve the coalition.

“We have won 25 out of 28 seats in Lok Sabha. This is a historic win. It is better if we dissolve the government and go for midterm polls. I don't want to speculate on forming the government. Things will happen on their own,” he added.

The state president further added that none of his party members were in touch with the JD(S) or the Congress.
“No BJP MLA is in touch with Congress or JDS. We are all together. I am going to Delhi for the Prime Minister's oath-taking ceremony. I also want to congratulate him on this massive victory,” he added.
