With just a few days left for the announcement of results for the Lok Sabha elections, here are the exit polls. Looks like the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu may face a setback, as the DMK-Congress alliance may have an edge, this time.
Bengaluru: The Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha elections exit poll results suggest that the DMK-Congress may have an edge against the AIADMK-BJP alliance.
TIMES NOW-VMR 2019 exit poll has predicted 29 seats for UPA and nine seats for the NDA for Tamil Nadu.
Republic TV has predicted 11 seats for the NDA, 27 for the UPA.
The News18's IPSOS exit poll suggests that the AIADMK alliance, which includes the BJP, may win 14-16 seats. The ruling-AIADMK, which won 37 seats last time, may end up with only 8-10 seats this time. The BJP and the Congress are likely to win 1-2 and 3-5 seats, respectively.
According to the India Today Axis exit poll, the DMK-Congress is set for a thumping victory with 34-38 seats and the AIADMK-BJP alliance is estimated to win a maximum of four seats.
The Chanakya-News24 exit poll has predicted BJP alliance to win 6 seats, Congress alliance 31 seats and others are pegged at one seat.
The exit polls are based on responses of the people who have cast their votes. Pollsters predict the results much before the actual counting of votes.
Voting for the Lok Sabha and the Assembly polls took place on April 18, barring a few constituencies that went to polls in the last phase. 38 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu went to polls on April 18, while the Vellore constituency was rescinded following seizure of cash ahead of polling.
Tiruvallur, Chennai North, Chennai South, Chennai Central, Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram, Arakkonam, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Arani, Viluppuram, Kallakurichi, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Dindigul, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Sivaganga, Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukkudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari, voted in the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls.
Polling in four assembly constituencies and repolling in 13 parliamentary constituencies took place on May 19.
Out of the 38 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, seven are reserved for scheduled castes. The seats reserved for SCs are Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Nilgiris, Chidambaram, Nagapattinam and Tenkasi.
The main parties contesting the Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha elections are the Congress, National Democratic Alliance (which includes the BJP and the AIDAMK), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), TTV Dinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) and Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM).
