Tamil Nadu is all set to take on both, Lok Sabha and the bypolls at the same time. Campaigners across party lines have been using various issues of the state to their advantage, one such is the mystery surrounding the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa who died while undergoing treatment for two months. DMK chief Stalin has assured probe into the matter. However, the AIADMK points out that the DMK is using Jayalalithaa's name to gain advantage.
Coimbatore: DMK chief MK Stalin has said that the first thing that his party would do if voted to power in Tamil Nadu is to probe the mystery surrounding the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
Stalin said that only a thorough probe into the entire incident would bring out the truth.
"DMK, if voted to power, will make efforts to solve the mystery. All those behind the mystery will be brought to book and sent to jail," he said.
Addressing a meeting seeking votes for party candidate Shanmugasundaram in Pollachi, Stalin said, "This is not being done for the benefit of DMK or its alliance partners, but is making an attempt to take into account the agony and pain suffered by AIADMK workers and sacrifice by its cadres."
MyNation spoke to Kovai Sathyan, spokesperson of the AIADMK, who questioned the DMK’s motive.
“At the time of J Jayalalithaa’s death, the DMK kept quiet on the matter, now they’re speaking about it ahead of the election. This is clearly done with political agenda,” said Sathyan.
Sathyan further went on to say that a probe was initiated where about 90% of the investigations are done.
A senior lawyer, Rajasekharan, who is also an ardent fan of J Jayalalithaa, said that it is good to understand the death of a person.
“Whether it is natural death or otherwise, it is good to find out what caused the death of Jayalalithaa. But such things must not be used for political gain,” stated Rajasekharan.
Former chief minister Jayalalithaa died on December 5, 2016, after two months of undergoing treatment for various complications since September 22.
The State government had set up an inquiry commission headed by retired High Court judge A Arumughaswamy to look into the circumstances leading to the death of the AIADMK supremo citing doubts expressed by various people.
Stalin also hit out at the recent I-T raids at the premises of DMK treasurer Duraimurugan in Vellore and alleged that police vehicles were being used for transporting money to pay voters on behalf of the ruling party.
Earlier in his address at Thondamuthur and Kuniyamuthur in the city, Stalin said AIADMK government was afraid to conduct local body elections, fearing complete sweep by the DMK.
