Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government made laws to prevent economic offences in the country. The law also enabled the Indian government to seize their property at any corner in the world.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an exclusive interview with Republic TV Bharat talked about the fugitives with whom India has launched a war.

PM Modi said that though he knew he will be criticised, he still chose to first tackle the financial situation and condition of banks in the country.

“Firstly, we stopped people who were stealing money from Banks. It was because of our actions that they had to run away to other countries,” added Modi.

The Prime Minister also said that this is not the first time that people are stealing money, however, the previous Congress government did nothing about it.

“The countrymen do not even know their names. No one came back, no one paid the money”

Recently fugitive diamantaire and main accused in the Rs 11,400 crore PNB scam case, Nirav Modi, was arrested in London. Nirav reportedly left the country on January 1 last year, only weeks before the CBI received a complaint from PNB on January 29.

On February 26, in a major step to partly recovering outstanding dues from absconding businessman Vijay Mallya, a PMLA court rejected United Breweries Holdings' plea to stay the proposed sale of shares worth around Rs 1,000 crore of its erstwhile subsidiary United Breweries (UBL) by a court-appointed liquidator.

This is the first sale of Mallya's confiscated assets by the authorities since he left the country in March 2016.
