Modi government's ministry of culture has organised a 2 days long event to revitalise the forgotten tradition of ancient India
New Delhi: At a time when the government has gone all out to promote everything Indian, how could they not give the ancient Indian tradition of ‘Guru Shishya Parampara’ (Teacher-Student tradition) the much needed push? Narendra Modi-led NDA government's ministry of culture has organised a 2 days long event to revitalise the forgotten tradition of ancient India.
The event called “Diksha: Guru Shishya Parampara” was inaugurated by flute king Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia at the IGNCA.
In December 2018, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts initiated a new series of the programme called “Diksha: Guru-Shishya Parampara”, based on the ancient tradition of passing knowledge orally, from a succession of teachers to students in their path to knowledge and enlightenment. The first programme celebrating the compositions of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan with his disciples was well received by connoisseurs and lovers of music.
Much to the delight of music lovers, The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts is organising the 2nd series of ‘Diksha’, based on the Guru-Shishya Parampara. In the first series of Diksha’, IGNCA had celebrated Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his disciples. This time IGNCA is hosting Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and his disciples.
The aim of the government is to rekindle this tradition in the age of 4G. This is part of the Modi government's larger scheme of things in pumping new lease of life in Indian traditions that are either neglected or forgotten with time.
Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia along with his disciples will be playing the Flute at the musical extravaganza. Speaking on the ‘Diksha’ series, IGNCA Member Secretary Sachchidanand Joshi said that the more of such theme-based programmes are planned and in the pipeline which will be unveiled in regular intervals.
