Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (August 25) addressed the nation through his monthly radio broadcast "Mann Ki Baat".
In today's speech, PM Modi stressed upon Mahatma Gandhi's 150 birth anniversary, also spoke about his appearance on Bear Grylls's "Man Vs Wild" episode on Discovery channel among other important things.
Here are five takeaways from PM Modi's "Mann Ki Baat" speech.
PM Modi urged people to not only ensure cleanliness and make India an Open Defecation Free (ODF-free) but also encouraged them to ban the use of single-use plastic. In his live programme, the prime minister said, "When we celebrate Bapu's 150th birth anniversary, we shall not only dedicate to him an India that is Open Defecation Free (ODF) but also shall lay the foundation of a new revolution against plastic, by the people themselves, throughout the country," he said.
PM Modi spoke about the initiative taken by Anganwadi workers in Maharashtra's Nashik to control malnutrition. In his speech, PM Modi said, "'Mutthi Bhar Dhaanya' initiative turned into a big movement in Nashik. During the harvest period, Anganwadi workers collect a handful of rice grains from people. These grains are used to make piping hot food for children and women."
PM Modi spoke on how he and Bear Grylls understood each other while speaking in their respective languages and maintained a fast conversation in “Man vs Wild” episode. In his speech, Modi said, "Whenever I spoke, there was simultaneous translation into English, or simultaneous interpretation and Bear Grylls had a small cordless instrument in his ear. So I used to speak in Hindi, but he heard it in English, and because of that, communication became effortless, and this is an amazing aspect of technology."
Keeping the listeners engaged in his conversation, PM Modi reminded them that August 29 is celebrated as National Sports Day and urged people to take in the 'Fit India Movement' which will be launched on August 29.
PM Modi concluded today’s (August 25) edition of “Mann Ki Baat” by asking people to pitch in their suggestions to build a better India. He said, "Come, let us all march together to make the India which was dreamt of by our freedom fighters and realise Gandhi's dreams "Swantah Sukhayah".
