Vellore is the only constituency that didn’t go to polls during the Lok Sabha election. Polling was rescinded after huge amount of cash was seized.

Chennai: Elections to the Vellore Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu was rescinded after President Ram Nath Kovind accepted the Election Commission's request.

Cash to the tune of Rs 11 crore was recovered from a godown owned by a DMK functionary.

This was the first time that elections in a Lok Sabha seat was rescinded.

Cash was recovered from the godown owned by a DMK functionary close to party’s candidate from Vellore, Kathir Anand, who also happens to the son of DMK treasurer Durai Murugan.

Vellore is a high profile seat where Anand was locked in an intense battle with Ramachandran from New Justice and K Pandurangan of the AMMK.

Cash for votes is something that Tamil Nadu faces every election season as political parties spend huge amounts of cash to woo voters.

However, DMK has cried foul and said that rescinding polls was just an act of vendetta.
