Andhra Pradesh went to polls on April 11. With candidates like N Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan and Nara Lokesh contesting, the results of this high-stakes battle are much anticipated.
Amaravathi: Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections were held on April 11. 319 candidates are vying for 25 Lok Sabha constituencies and 2395 candidates are in the fray for 175 Assembly seats. In this state, the elections were held in a single phase.
However, the exit polls have given mixed results as Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is looking to repeat a win in the state, though YSRCP's chances of a win also seem likely. Another competitor in the state is the Jana Sena, which has formed an alliance with the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The TDP will look to retain power after winning comfortably in the 2014 Vidhan Sabha elections. For the opposition, the YSR Congress looks at a must-win situation in order to retain political sustainability. The BJP will try to look towards proving its importance in Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape.
State chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP is with the Congress, after withdrawing support from the NDA, following a dispute with the BJP regarding the failure of granting the Special Category Status (SCS).
