Kannur: K Sudhakaran, Kannur Congress Lok Sabha candidate says Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan should resign immediately. Sudhakaran remarked saying that Pinarayi Vijayan is responsible for the defeat of the LDF in the state.

The UDF is ahead in 19 of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala. AM Arif of the LDF has taken the lead in Alappuzha. The exit polls had foretold that the UDF will bag more than half the seats in the state.

He also thanked the Kerala chief minister for helping the UDF win in Kannur and other parts of Kerala. The Congress leader has surged ahead against PK Sreemathy of the CPI(M) with a win-margin of 98,364 votes. He also added that the main cause of the UDF's victory in the state is the arrogance of the Left government on the Sabarimala issue.

He then told media that he had not received the votes of former LDF supporters he would not have been able to win in CPI(M)'s strongholds like Mattanur, Dharmadam and Taliparamba. The current turn of events in the state could change the political situation in the state, he said.

He also stated that Rahul Gandhi’s candidature had also played a major role in the victory of the UDF in the state. The party would examine the factors that led to its electoral setback at the national level, he said in response to a question. In the Wayanad constituency, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has maintained his lead.
