Yadgir: A day after hundreds of farmers complained that the Karnataka government has withdrawn the amount deposited in their accounts as part of the farm loan waive-off scheme, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy took to Twitter and claimed that the money had been transferred to ineligible accounts.
In a tweet, Kumaraswamy said that the money had been transferred to ineligible accounts and had been refunded. Therefore, the farm loan waiver amount will be transferred to the accounts of eligible farmers without instalments.
The chief minister further said that transparent auditing would be done by the state government as well as the banks to make sure the money is deposited only to the eligible farmers' accounts.
On Tuesday (June 11), minutes after the farmers found the amount "disappearing" from their bank accounts, several of them from Yadgir, Karnataka, blamed the coalition government and said that the state government took back the money as they refused to vote for the Congress-JD(S) in the state.
Karnataka BJP president BS Yeddyurappa also stood by the farmers and said that it is not right on the part of the coalition government to pay the farmers before Lok Sabha election and then snatch it away after the results are out.
In a meeting organised by the state's coalition government on Tuesday, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said that he would call for a meeting with representatives of various banks and seek an explanation as to why the money was retracted.
Speaking to reporters, the farmers had alleged that the government's scheme was only to win the votes of the people and had no intention to help them in any way.
