Out of 175 Assembly constituencies, YSRCP won in 145 seats breaking TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu's record in Andhra Pradesh
Amaravathi: Smashing all hopes of Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) appeared set to wrest power in Andhra Pradesh with a thumping victory on Thursday (May 23).
In Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won in 28 Assembly seats while YSRCP won 145 seats out of 175 seats.
Actor Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party (JSP) won two constituencies, according to information available with the Election Commission.
Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSRCP was racing ahead across the state from the time the initial trends started emerging.
The YSRCP also made a clean sweep in the Lok Sabha polls as the party was leading in 24 of the 25 constituencies.
The Assembly and Lok Sabha election results have borne bad news for TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, who was all set to serve as the chief minister for another term.
In 2014, the TDP had bagged 102 seats while its old ally BJP had won four seats. The YSRCP had won 67 seats while two independents were also elected.
In the Lok Sabha elections held simultaneously, the TDP had won 15 and the BJP two seats. The YSRCP bagged the remaining eight seats.
The TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu will resign from the chief ministerial post as YSRCP leader Jaganmohan Reddy prepares to attain the thrown on May 30.
