After the alliance and seat-sharing talks came to an end with the DMK-Congress, AICC president Rahul Gandhi will begin the campaigning of the same. The party president will address a rally in Kanyakumari on March 13
New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi is all set to kickstart the campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu. Rahul will begin the campaign of the DMK-led alliance by addressing a rally in Kanyakumari on March 13.
Besides Rahul, DMK president MK Stalin, MDMK chief Vaiko and the Left party leaders would also be participating in the rally.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president KS Alagiri spoke to the media and said, "The meeting will be a historic one.”
Alagiri also held a meeting with partymen to discuss about the arrangements for the rally.
He alleged that the leaders in Tamil Nadu at present did not have any policy or principles.
"There was a time when the state of Tamil Nadu had great leaders who led the state and the nation. But now the state leaders were without any policy or principles," Alagiri stated.
Speaking about actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth, Alagiri said, "Rajini is doing some sort of politics. We can enjoy him only in cinema theatres..."
Asked if he would contest from Kanyakumari district, Alagiri said Rahul will decide who will contest and from where.
On February 19, the AIADMK and BJP had sealed an alliance for the Lok Sabha elections. Union minister Piyush Goyal had been in the state and met with Tamil Nadu’s BJP president Tamilisai Soundarajan.
Just a day later, on February 20, the Congress and DMK joined hands to form an alliance.
Both the AIADMK-BJP and DMK-Congress alliances went knocking on the doors of ailing DMDK chief Vijayakanth.
However, Vijayakanth had remained mum and chose to steer away from the DMK.
The DMK had allotted seats to their allies, and at a time when the AIADMK believed that talks with the DMDK were making a progress, the DMDK attempted to make a last-ditch effort and ran back to the DMK.
However, the DMK had made it very clear that there was no scope for an alliance with them and shut its doors on the DMDK.
