Andhra Pradesh: Jaganmohan Reddy holds first Cabinet meeting, plans to abolish Contributory Pension Scheme

Days after 25 legislators were sworn-in as ministers in the Cabinet, Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy held his first cabinet meeting on Monday (June 10).

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy held the first meeting of his Cabinet on Monday (June 10) with all 25 ministers, including five newly elected deputy chief ministers of the state.

On Saturday (June 8), 25 legislators were sworn-in as ministers in the cabinet of the chief minister, nine days after Jaganmohan took over as Andhra Pradesh CM.

In the cabinet meeting, Jagan contemplated the abolition of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), which was introduced by his father YS Rajasekhar Reddy in September 2004. The cabinet meeting commenced at the Secretariat, Velagapudi in Andhra Pradesh.

The outcome on the development of financial reforms during the 1990s, the Central Government brought the CPS in place of Old Pension Scheme (OPS). Based on this, majority of the state governments have been implementing the CPS, including Andhra Pradesh government.

Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan administered the oath of office and secrecy to the ministers at a simple function at the state secretariat in Velagapudi, Andhra Pradesh.

In the Andhra Pradesh Assembly election, Reddy's YSRCP secured an absolute majority by winning 151 out of 175 seats.
