New Delhi: Disgruntled AAP MLA Alka Lamba has decided not to campaign for the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha election and wants party Chief Arvind Kejriwal to give her 'equal respect' as he gives other MLAs of the party.

“Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is holding meetings with all the MLAs but not meeting me. As I am a woman MLA of the party, I want the party and senior leaders to treat me equally and with the same respect,” Alka Lamba told MyNation.

A legislator from Chandni Chowk area said that she had made several attempts, but the party leader is ignoring her. “I have constantly been working in my area, but still the party is keeping me away from their official functions,” she said.

“I am going to my constituency every day and asking people to come out in large numbers and vote on May 12, but I am not seeking votes for AAP. For the last couple of months, I have been seeking an appointment with senior leaders, but I am being ignored, so I am not going to carry the party’s flag for this election,” she said.

Tension has been simmering between Lamba and her party since December when she was asked to quit the AAP over a state assembly resolution row. Lamba had reportedly said that her party colleagues were angry after she opposed a resolution aimed at withdrawing late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's Bharat Ratna over his failure to stop the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Alka blames party leaders for spreading misinformation about her which has led to soured ties with the party. Naming AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj for trying to create a rift between her and the party she had earlier said,

“Saurabh Bhardwaj has repeatedly been levelling accusations that I am joining the Congress party, (he has) fuelled the rumours in the party and the media that I am contesting Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket.”

The two legislators had also indulged in a war of words on Twitter earlier this month.

Lamba started her political career with Congress’s student wing and was a member of the party until 2014 after which she joined the Aam Aadmi Party.
