The 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' jibe by Congress president Rahul Gandhi to target the Prime Minister has seriously backfired and Modi has turned the tables and attacked the Congress with its own weapon.
New Delhi: Looking at the runaway success of #MainBhiChowkidar on Twitter, which has become a mass movement of sorts, BJP chief Amit Shah on Sunday launched a similar initiative on another social media platform, Facebook.
The BJP chief announced on Facebook that he was changing his profile picture to launch the movement and appealed to the people of India to support the party in this endeavour.
"I have changed my profile picture to add strength to the #MainBhiChowkidar movement. I appeal to each one of you to join Prime Minister Modi in this endeavour," Shah said on Facebook after changing his profile picture, which now shows him in the foreground with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the backdrop.
Following Shah's lead, BJP leaders like Dharmendra Pradhan, Nitin Gadkari, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, JP Nadda, Mahesh Sharma, Jual Oram, Maneka Gandhi, Radha Mohan Singh and Suresh Prabhu changed their profile pictures as well to lend support to the 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' initiative.
For a better and deeper connect with the electorate, Shah's Facebook update is in Hindi, rather than English.

The Prime Minister was at his aggressive best while addressing 25 lakh watchmen (chowkidars) from across the country a day before Holi. He took the BJP's campaign of 'Mai Bhi Chowkidar' (I am also a watchman) a step further by apologising to all watchmen on behalf of the Congress that ran the negative political campaign to target Modi.
Ever since the Prime Minister changed his Twitter name to 'Chowkidar Narendra Modi', all the BJP leaders added the word 'Chowkidar' before their names on social media too. According to political observers, this is an old trick that Modi had employed to embarrass his political opponents time and again when he was the Gujarat chief minister.
