Kathmandu (Nepal): India set a new record at the South Asian Games by winning over 300 medals in Kathmandu, Nepal, on the final day of the multi-sport event.

India won 174 gold medals, 93 silver and 45 bronze. “India sets new record! India create a new record at the #SouthAsianGames with as they reach 312 medals, three more than their tally in 2016. Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated the Indian contingent for the achievement.  “India crosses the 300 mark in the #SAFGames2019 ! Congratulates the Indian contingent for topping the medal table and crossing the triple century mark. Well done, team!!,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

India had claimed 309 medals in the 2016 edition of the South Asian Games and by winning 312 this time around, the contingent has broken its own record.

Nepal concluded the tournament at the second position in the medal tally with a total of 206 medals. Sri Lanka and Pakistan are on the third and fourth spots respectively.

The contingent had ended Monday with a total medal count of 279 medals. But the athletes have been able to add 33 more medals to take the total tally to 312.

On the concluding day, India added 18 medals (15 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze) with the boxers fetching six gold and 1 silver.

Overall, the country’s pugilists won 12 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.

The Indian cagers fetched both the men’s and women’s gold by defeating Sri Lanka (101-62) and host Nepal (127-46) in their respective summit clashes.
