The Indian, who is ranked 13th in the world, was 1-0 game up when Chen decided to retire from the contest due to an injury.

In the women’s singles, India’s challenge had ended when world champion PV Sindhu lost her second round match on Thursday, to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 18-21, 21-11, 16-21.
Saina Nehwal had crashed out in the first round after being defeated by China's Cai Yan Yan 21-13, 22-20.
