Her answer may just shock you

Web series is the hottest digital medium happening today. Saif Ali Khan’s Sacred Games on Netflix directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane is a super hit. Narcos, 13 Reasons Why, Bosch, Comrade Detective, etc are much watched web series.

From stars including Rajkummar Rao to Richa Chaddha, Nimrat Kaur and Swara Bhaskar, many have taken the plunge in acting in one. Aishwarya Rai’s husband Abhishek Bachchan is a self-confessed web series binge watcher. The actress tells us that she loves to watch them too when she has time and if approached with a great role she may just give her nod to it.

Aishwarya tells us that when the concept of web series was still new, she was approached, three years ago before she signed one. “I have always said I am always open to it if it’s a great role. It’s the way an idea unfolds and develops that attracts me in a movie or web series. I have been open to acting in one even before it became a trend today. Interestingly, I may have done a web series after Aaradhya but during that time Jazbaa came up. We were developing something (the web series) strongly but the makers decided to make it into a movie. When that wasn’t happening, Sanjay Gupta approached me for Jazbaa, so I said let’s do this."

The actress adds that she hasn’t had the time to catch up with the recent lot of web series as she has been busy with her brand assignments and completing the shoot of Fanney Khan which releases today. “I haven’t seen the current ones but I do watch when I can. I remember when I was shooting Devdas, people would come and asked me if I was open to the possibility of being on television. I’d have loved to do when nobody expected it to, just like everything else I did in life.”

However, while a web series interests her, Aishwarya is not convinced about doing television right now. “At different points in time a few ideas did come my way, including the dance judging shows, when they were first starting out but I was busy and said maybe later. If I do come into television and I find it an incredible medium. I have always believed in the strength and power of it. It’s such a liberating time in our medium for all talents to just enjoy what we do. But while I believe that, I need to start feeling that a lot more. I am not seeing enough of that which I think there should be and I am questioning myself why not?”
