According to MHA data, the number of casualties has risen on all sides — security forces, civilians and terrorists — even as the forces intensify counter-terror operations and Pakistan pushes more infiltrators across the LoC and international border
The war on terror going on in Jammu and Kashmir has intensified,with the Valley reporting more incidents of bloodbath. According to the data compiled by the Union home ministry, there is a rise of almost 80% in the terror incidents reported in in the state.
According to the official data, there is also a rise of almost 17% in the number of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty in the state while fighting terrorists.

The good news is that the security forces deployed in the region have, at the same time, neutralised 20% more terrorists than previous year despite the massive push to terrorism by Pakistan. This year, the security forces have killed 238 terrorists.
Also, the security forces have successfully managed to control civilian casualty inflicted by terrorists active in Jammu and Kashmir.There is a negligible rise in the number of civilians killed in these incidents. While 36 people were killed by terrorists till 2 December in 329 incidents of terror violence last year,37 civilians were killed in the same period in total 587 incidentsthis year.

There is but a rise in number of security personnel killed during the operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Last year, 74 security personnel were martyred in the state; this figure has gone up to 86.
Forces deployed in the region say that the war between them and the terrorists have intensified as Pakistan is desperately pumping in more terrorists into the state to plan attacks in India. “Obviously, there is a rise in the number of incidents but there is also a rise in the number of terrorists killed by security forces. These things happen when you start a clean-up operations. But our priority remains the same — toprotect civilians first and then our men," a senior official, who has handled multiple anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, said under the condition of anonymity.
Though the government claims many steps have been taken to prevent activities of militantsincluding the strengthening of the operational grid with enhanced human intelligence and use of technical intelligence grid.
Home minister Rajnath Singh in September inauguratedthe smart border fencing projects built under the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) programme. The two projects cover a 5.5 km border stretch each along the international border have incorporated a hi-tech surveillance system that would create an invisible electronic barrier on land, water and even in air and underground.This will help the Border Security Force (BSF) detect and foil infiltration bids on the most difficult terrains.
The CIBMS uses a number of different devices for surveillance, communication and data storage. Sensors like thermal imaging, UGS, fibre optical sensors, radar, sonar have been mounted on different platforms like aerostat, tower, poles etc.
