New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh will soon get world’s longest superhighway — Ganga Expressway, that will connect Prayagraj with Meerut. Yogi Adityanath government's most ambitious project, worth Rs 36,000 crore, will be 600-km long.
According to the plan, the new expressway will start from Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh and pass through Amroha, Bulandshahr, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Kannauj, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh and end at Prayagraj in the east.
The Yogi government gave the nod to the project during the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, which was held in the Kumbh Mela premises in Prayagraj. The chief minister claimed that Ganga Expressway will be the ‘world’s biggest’ expressway, built on nearly 6,500 hectare of land, with four land access controls.
The project will also improve the connectivity of several districts of Uttar Pradesh with Delhi and NCR.
The central government is already expanding the highway connecting Delhi to Meerut, which will be completed by March. The highway will cut down travel time between Delhi and Meerut from 3.5 hours to just 40 minutes.
Previous UP chief ministers Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav boast of making e-way in the state and have used it as development card during the polls. The Greater Noida to Agra Yamuna expressway was made during Mayawati’s regime, while the highway connecting Agra to Lucknow was constructed when Akhilesh was the chief minister.
