Uttar Pradesh: Man loses eyesight after consuming illicit liquor, investigation underway

Muzaffarnagar: A man from Uttar Pradesh lost his eyesight after consuming spurious liquor. This incident came just two days after five people died and seven others fell ill in the region after consuming illicit alcohol.

Officials also confirmed the news on Friday and the said that the incident happened in Kamalpur village under the Jhinjhana police station.

The patient, identified as Mohar Singh, was brought to the Shamli District Hospital after he complained of losing his eyesight, said the medical officer Deepak Kumar.

Singh was subsequently referred to the Meerut Medical College for treatment.

Following the death of five people, on August 22, an FIR was registered against unidentified vendors in Shamli district  under various sections of Indian Penal Code, including 304A (causing death by negligence).

According to reports, one of the deceased Jugga Singh bought the brought the illicit liquor to Kamalpur village and sold it to local residents.

Meanwhile, five policemen, including the sub-inspector, have been suspended for negligence in duty.
