Guwahati: At least three suspected ULFA-I militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Nagaland's Mon district on Monday.
According to reports, the gunfight took place between the Wating and Wangla areas in Mon district along the Assam-Nagaland border where a 10-12-member militant group equipped with heavy weapons had taken shelter.
Sources said that the militants were planning to sneak into Assam.
When security personnel reached the place, the militants opened fire. There was a heavy exchange of firing between the militants and the security forces.
Three militants were killed in the gun battle. The security forces recovered the body of one of the militants. At least two security personnel were also injured in the gun fight. A combing operation is going on in the area.
