This would be the second time that the US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have met. Trump said that the two countries would have been at “war” had he not been elected president.

Washington: In another bid by his administration to roll back the North Korea’s nuclear program, US President Donald Trump, on Wednesday, said that he will meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The US President said that he will meet Kim Jong-un in Vietnam in a summit that will be held on February 27 and 28.

In his delayed State of Union Speech due to a partial shutdown of the government, Trump also said the helped avoid a “major war” between the two countries.

This would be the second time that the two leaders have met. Kim and Trump met in Singapore last year, marking the first bilateral meeting between leaders of the two countries.

Remarking that his relationship with the North Korean leader is “good,” Trump said while addressing Congress, that progress has been made in his administration's efforts to achieve peace on the Korean peninsula.

However, Trump also warned that there are risks heightened tensions between the two countries and also said that North Korea and the United States would have been at war if he wasn’t elected President.

"If I had not been elected President of the United States, we would right now, in my opinion, be in a major war with North Korea," Trump said.

The lead US negotiator with North Korea, Stephen Biegun, is set to meet with his North Korean counterpart on Wednesday in Pyongyang.

It is not clear in which city the summit will take place. Hanoi, the nation's capital, and Da Nang, a coastal resort town, have both been floated as possibilities.
