A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi criticised the former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav for "wasting precious judicial time" and slapped the hefty fine on him for moving the petition
New Delhi: The Supreme Court Friday has slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for wasting its time by filing a plea, challenging the Patna High Court order to vacate a government bungalow meant for the deputy chief minister.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi criticised the former Bihar deputy chief minister for "wasting precious judicial time" and slapped the hefty fine on him for moving the petition.
Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna were also a part of the bench.
Yadav had filed an appeal against the Patna High Court judgment turning down his petition challenging the Bihar government order to vacate his bungalow at 5, Deshratan Marg, which was allotted to him in 2015, to make way for Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi.
"The petitioner has been allotted a bungalow matching his status as a minister in the government at 1, Polo Road, Patna...He cannot raise complaint on the decision so taken simply because the present bungalow is more suited to him,” said the Patna high court in its order on the petition, according to reports
Yadav, who is currently the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, was then appointed as the deputy chief minister of the 'grand alliance' government headed by Nitish Kumar and was rightly allocated the bungalow. However, he continues to reside there even after RJD lost power in the state.
