New Delhi: Everything in the garden might not be rosy for the newly-formed alliance of once-arch rivals Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, especially after Shivpal Yadav joined hands with Congress on Monday.
Shivpal, who is the brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav and former Samajwadi Party member, has his own party — the Pragtisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia (PSPL).
Amid this political fireworks, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav met Mayawati in Lucknow on Sunday to congratulate her on the new tie-up. He seemed 100 percent certain that BJP will lose Uttar Pradesh in the 2019 general elections.
"There's atmosphere today where they want to scrap Baba Saheb's constitution and implement 'Nagpur laws'...People welcome step taken by Mayawati ji & Akhilesh ji. BJP will be whitewashed in UP & Bihar. They won't win even 1 seat in UP, SP-BSP alliance will win all seats,” Tejashwi said.
However, Tejashwi seems oblivious to the fact that if Shivpal joins hands with Congress, the alliance will take away a huge chunk of the vote.
After Congress was cut out of the SP-BSP alliance, Rahul Gandhi said, "I have tremendous respect for the leaders of the BSP and Samajwadi Party, and recognise that they have the right to do what they want. It's on us to strengthen the Congress party in Uttar Pradesh, and we will fight to our full capacity.”
Ghulam Nabi Azad also told reporters, "Everyone knows that parliament fight is between the Congress and the BJP. We'll certainly take the help of like-minded-parties and respect such parties who are fighting the BJP."
