Sushma Swaraj backs out of 2019 Lok Sabha polls, cites health reasons

Indore: External affairs minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday said she won't contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections due to health reasons.

At a Bharatiya Janta Party press conference held today, Swaraj told reporters here that she has "made up her mind" not to contest the elections.

"It is the party which decides, but I have made up my mind not to contest the next (Lok Sabha) elections," she said.

Swaraj has been a Member of Parliament for several years and she was also Delhi's first woman chief minister.

Swaraj won 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Vidisha parliamentary constituency in Madhya Pradesh by a margin of more than 4 lakh votes.
