Sri Lankan Navy arrests five Rameshwaram fishermen

Ramanathapuram: The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested five more fishermen a day after arresting 13 fishermen from Pamban in Rameshwaram.

As per sources, the Sri Lankan naval craft attached to the Northcentral naval command apprehended the fishermen and their trawler.

The Sri Lankan Navy on Wednesday night had arrested 13 fishermen, eight from Mandapam in Ramanathapuram district and five from Jagadapattinam in Pudukottai district along with three trawlers.

Recently, on December 19, seven Indian fishing trawlers held by the Sri Lankan Navy for illegal fishing in their territorial waters were released from their custody.
