Reports state that the Childline officers found three minor girls working at actress Bhanupriya's house at T Nagar in Chennai.
Chennai: Three days after the news of a girl and her mother being arrested for stealing from actress Bhanupriya, latest reports state that three minor girls were found working as domestic helpers in actress’ Chennai house.
Reports state that the three girls were found when Childline officers visited the actress’ house at T Nagar in Chennai.
Child rights activist Achyutha Rao had written to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and also the state commission in this regard. The NCPCR reportedly ordered the raid. Rao also demanded the arrest of the actress for violation of the Child Labour Act.
Police are yet to officially confirm the information of three minors found in Bhanupriya's house.
Bhanupriya lodged a complaint at the Pondy Bazaar police against the 16-year-old girl and her mother, accusing them of theft, and the police arrested the mother and daughter on Friday.
The issue, however, dates back to a few days earlier when the girl's mother lodged a complaint on January 24, in Andhra Pradesh stating that Bhanupriya had held her daughter captive in her Chennai house and was not paying her for the work she did. Her mother also said that Bhanupriya did not allow her to meet her daughter.
Activist Achyutha Rao had alleged that Bhanupriya had four minor girls at her home and the matter needed to be probed.
There are discrepancies in Bhanupriya and the mother's complaints. The mother stated that her daughter was just 15 years old but Bhanupriya in her complaint stated that the girl was 18 years old.
Among other claims the mother alleged that her daughter was being tortured there, but Bhanupriya had said that the mother and daughter duo was stealing valuables from her house.
