Rajiv Babbar of the BJP had slapped Shashi Tharoor with a defamation suit for his remark that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was 'a scorpion sitting on a Shiva linga, which you can neither remove with your hands or slippers', which the Congress politician had claimed was a metaphor used by an RSS swayamsevak
New Delhi: Former Union minister and Congress politician Shashi Tharoor may be hassled by legality not connected to the case of Sunanda Pushkar’s death in the coming days. BJP leader Rajiv Babbar filed a complaint in the Patiala House Court on January 17 in connection with the alleged defamation case filed against Tharoor on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The court is expected to summon Tharoor in response to the complaint. During the previous hearing, the court accepted the application related to the criminal defamation case filed against Tharoor.
Babbar had filed a petition related to the criminal defamation by Tharoor at the court, on which the court had asked the BJP politician to appear for the mandatory testimony.
Babbar said in his petition that Tharoor’s statement had shocked BJP workers, RSS swayamsevaks and supporters of Prime Minister Modi who are enthused by the fact that under his leadership, the party won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and many Assembly elections thereafter.
During a function to launch his book The Paradoxical Prime Minister in Bangalore, Tharoor had said that once an unknown functionary of the RSS had used a new metaphor for Prime Minister Modi: “a scorpion sitting on a Shiva linga, which you can neither remove with your hands or slippers”.
