Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor took to Twitter to let people know that he had sent a legal notice to Prasad. "When India's Law Minister falsely invents a murder case against a political opponent, what hope for justice & democracy?" Tweeted Tharoor
New Delhi: Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor is on a defamation case-slapping spree, it seems. After filing a criminal defamation case against news anchor and editor-in-chief of Republic TV Arnab Goswami for allegedly making a defamatory statement in relation to the demise of the former’s wife, Sunanda Pushkar, Tharoor has now sued union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for calling him a "murder accused".
According to a legal notice previously sent by Tharoor, on October 28, Prasad during a press conference said, "Shashi Tharoor who is accused in a murder case..."
Prasad said this while demanding an apology from Tharoor for calling the Prime Minister Narendra Modi “a scorpion sitting on a Shiv Linga”.
Tharoor took to Twitter to let people know that he had sent a legal notice to Prasad. "When India's Law Minister falsely invents a murder case against a political opponent, what hope for justice & democracy?" Tweeted Tharoor.
But was Prasad completely wrong?
In July, Delhi's Patiala House Court granted anticipatory bail to Tharoor in the Sunanda Pushkar death case for which he had been named an accused. Tharoor was charged under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 498A (cruelty by husband towards wife) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Pushkar was found dead in a room at the Leela Hotel in New Delhi on 17 January 2014. According to reports, she also sent a mail to Tharoor saying, "I have no desire to live... all I pray for is death.”
