The Enforcement Directorate has been questioning Robert Vadra regarding a money laundering case. After Vadra cited ill-health, the investigators have granted him a day's leave. Congress president Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law has to be available for interrogation again on February 22.
New Delhi: After getting grilled for hours, Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi and husband of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, is now claiming to be unwell. On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) ended its questioning early after Vadra told the investigators he was not feeling well. According to sources, he will face the ED again on Friday.
This is not the first time that his questioning has been delayed due to his alleged ill-health. Vadra skipped questioning on Tuesday as well, after which the ED decided to call him on Wednesday. So far, the ED officials have questioned him for a total of almost 24 hours in the last few days. The agency is questioning him with a money laundering case related to his alleged properties abroad including one in London. Vadra, who had reached the ED’s Jamnagar House office at 10:30 AM on Wednesday left the place at around 3:20 PM.
Sources have confirmed that the ED was inquiring about funds using which he purchased assets abroad. After being questioned for more than four hours, Vadra told the ED officials that he was not feeling well. After consulting with senior ED officials, investigators allowed him to leave and also granted him a day's time before he could be interrogated again on February 22.
ED officials wanted to question him about his alleged emails sent to another accused, the controversial arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. Emails between Vadra and Chadha were earlier exclusively accessed by MyNation too. Chadha wrote to Vadra asking if there was “any update on when some funds will be sent” as Chadha has “not heard back from anyone and would appreciate” if Vadra could let him know so that he could plan his “cash flow”.
“As you are aware, I am not doing this project for any commercial gain. It's only to complete a task taken on as a favour and my ability to complete without unnecessary stress will be greatly assisted if I can be given some clear assurances and timelines on which I will be reimbursed,” Chadha wrote to Vadra.
