The entire state of Tamil Nadu is mourning the demise of its beloved leader and DMK president, M Karunanidhi. His death has officially marked the end of an era of Dravidian politics.

Politics has got the better of Karunanidhi's last rites. While the Tamil Nadu government is ready to offer Guindy as his burial ground, DMK would settle for nothing less than Marina Beach. It is here that Jayalalithaa and before her, MG Ramachandran were buried.

The latest report from the Kauvery hospital which went public stated that the clinical condition of Kalaignar was extremely critical and was witnessing a major decline. With Karunanidhi's deteriorating medical condition, his son and DMK's working president MK Stalin decided to make some prior arrangements for a smooth burial of his father but certain challenges are adding to his ordeal.

According to sources, Karunanidhi's dead body might be transported to Gopalapuram residence in Chennai, where his second wife Dayalu Ammal has been confined to, who herself is suffering from memory loss. After that, he might be taken to the residence of his first wife in CIT Colony. But the place where the leader might be buried has become the big question of the hour.

To make things easy, MK Stalin has been visiting the PWD officials and has also met the state secretary in regards to getting his father the kind of burial Karunanidhi had dreamt of.

Stalin has also reportedly met TN CM Edappadi Palaniswami to get an approval for a place behind Anna Memorial at the famous Marina beach where his counterparts Jayalalithaa and MGR have been entombed, but Stalin tasted disappointment after the CM allegedly refused him the permission and gave instructions for burial on Kamaraj Manimandapam in Guindy.

Irony has it, sources say that reportedly, the then CM Karunanidhi raised objections to former TN CM K Kamaraj's burial at Marina Beach as he was not serving as the CM while he breathed his last and MK Stalin is battling for Karunanidhi's burial at Marina beach.

On his health front, Karunanidhi suffered a major setback on 6th August after he was admitted to the hospital, following a drop in his blood pressure level on July 28. The five-time chief minister has seen many ups and downs, since then. A sea of supporters including the DMK cadres have gathered outside the Kauvery hospital and Gopalapuram residence to express their support for this mass leader.
