New Delhi: After Allahabad, one of the oldest cities of Uttar Pradesh, was renamed as Prayagraj on Tuesday, Supreme Court advocate and BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay has proposed to rename 25 cities.

In a tweet, Upadhyay has asked to rename Adilabad, Ahmedabad, Ahmednagar, Ajmer, Aligarh, Aurangabad, Bakhtiyarpur, Baramulla, Bhagalpur, Faizabad, Ghaziabad, Ghazipur, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Karimabad, Lucknow, Mahabubabad, Mahabubanagar, Muzaffarnagar, Muzaffarpur, Nizamabad, Osmanabad, Secunderabad, Sultanganj, and Sultanpur.

MyNation reached out to Upadhyay to ask him for alternative names that he proposes for these places. “I want the ancient names to be reinstated; of if there is a freedom fighter from that particular place, like Abdul Hamid from Ghazipur, we should rename the place after him," he said.

In August, the Uttar Pradesh government renamed Mughalsarai railway station as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction railway station, after 156 years. It was inaugurated by BJP national president Amit Shah in the presence of railway minister Piyush Goyal and UP CM Adityanath.

There is a sizeable section of Gujarat's population that wants Ahmedabad to be renamed as Karnavati. While a section of Hindus want Hyderabad to be renamed as Bhagyanagar, the city is the capital of Telangana, which is not under BJP rule.

Aurangabad in Maharashtra may soon regain the name of Sambhajinagar. Bhopal may become Bhojpal. Lucknow may turn Lakshmanpur. What is now the capital of Uttar Pradesh was called Lakhanpur or Lachhmanpur till the 11th century.

Upadhyay’s tweet has been retweeted by several Union ministers like Giriraj Singh and Dr. Satya Pal Singh.

Apart from renaming roads, cities, and parks that are named after ‘invaders’, Upadhyay has demanded the repeal of Article 35A & 370, Article 44 & 351 to be put into action, to enact population control law, stop majority-minority division, to repeal ‘India’ from the Constitution, to pass Dr Singh’s 2016 Private Bill, to repeal Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) and ban foreign funding.
