New Delhi: Congress sympathisers and former workers have opened a frontal attack on party president Rahul Gandhi, calling out his inaction in a spate of sexual harassment cases which hit the grand old party of late, as the #MeToo storm had crashed on the party’s shores.
A former member of the Congress social media team, which was rocked by a sexual harassment case against Chirag Patnaik, on Friday snubbed the Congress president in just two, but succinctly powerful, words: “Shut Up”. Patnaik is a trusted lieutenant of social media head Divya Spandana.

The rebuff to Gandhi came in response to his tweet, in which he claimed to be standing for the “respect and dignity of women”. The tweet said: “It’s about time everyone learns to treat women with respect and dignity. I’m glad the space for those who don't, is closing. The truth needs to be told loud and clear in order to bring about change. #MeToo.”

Another Twitter handle went after Gandhi for his failure to act against “predators” in his party, alluding to NSUI chief Fairoz Khan and Patnaik. In response to Gandhi’s same tweet, Gunja Kapoor tweeted: “@RahulGandhi Ji, I wrote a letter to you asking you to take action on predators languishing in @INCIndia for months now. Tweet - Done, Talk – Done. Please Walk the Talk on #MeToo too.”
